If you’re recently engaged and starting to get into planning a wedding, first let me say CONGRATULATIONS!!! This is such an exciting time in your life, but it also might be a little stressful. You might be feeling overwhelmed wondering what you should accomplish first. So, let’s chat about your first four priorities after getting engaged!
First Two Steps After Getting Engaged
My first piece of advice would be to sit down with your fiancé and talk about your budget. Discuss together who is paying for what? This is really important because you shouldn’t book any vendors until you know how much you can spend! After you have figured out your budget, then I suggest nailing down a wedding date! Personally, I would have one date that you both really want, and then a back-up date. You might have a dream venue or photographer that you really want to book. But if they are already booked for your desired date, then you have your second date that you can go with.
Book Your Wedding Venue
My third suggestion is to pick your venue. There are so many venues to select from, with all different kinds of styles, so before you choose, make sure you know the theme you want to achieve. Do you want rustic or modern? Or do you wish for a fancy or romantic venue? Once you get a list of the venues you like, definitely go and take a tour! It’s very important that you see the entire venue so that you can see what they have to offer, and get a price from them. Sometimes brides say that when they first walked into their venue, they knew immediately that’s where they wanted to get married, but others have said they needed to keep looking. A few of my favorite Savannah wedding venues are: The Westin Savannah, HollyOaks on the Marsh, and a wedding ceremony at Forsyth Park followed by a wedding reception at Hotel Bardo.
Hire a Wedding Photographer
Once you have booked a wedding venue, then I suggest hiring a photographer! Just like picking a venue, you need to ask yourself what kind of look you want for your photos. Do you prefer light and airy, or dark and moody? After you figure that out, then start looking for a photographer in your price point. One of my biggest pieces of advice when picking a wedding photographer is making sure that you click with them! They will be with you the whole time of your wedding planning process, and will even be with you more than your fiancé on your wedding day!
